Parents, step aside – today’s kids came to claim the title of the generation that will need more than any other the gift of yoga. According to a recent survey on behalf of the American Psychological Association, this generation that is now growing is the most stressed in history. And is it to be amazed? Any adult having a child in the environment knows very well how their programs are overloaded with various kinds of obligations, how every minute in their lives is part of a timetable, and how they are for the first time required to cope with a complex And a demanding array of tasks, challenges and goals, and for the first time in their lives.
The only natural answer to this madness is its opposite: calmness. Serenity. The pause to listen to your mind and body. And that can only be taught by yoga if they become friend in time. Special psychologists in the US are calling on schools to integrate yoga and meditation on the lesson schedule, arguing that it is an integral part of the school’s debt to teach children how to help their minds meet the challenges that the School poses. Improvements in areas such as interpersonal behavior, concentration, attention and rapid response to stimuli, sleep and rest in general, the management of positive and negative emotions, and the management of negative developments of all kinds are striking in what children have exposed to yoga and meditation lessons. Indeed, the benefits are even greater when it comes to school hours, when children consider yoga lessons an integral part of their education, not a simple hobby or a sport like everything else.
As soon as foreign schools realize how valuable yoga can be for our children, I hope soon to see a change of mindset in Greece – where children are the hardest working members of our society …
